Three Fun Facts About MAZDA from Woodhouse Place MAZDA

August 4th, 2020 by

At Woodhouse Place Mazda, we pride ourselves on being a company with a long history. From our humble beginnings to what could be considered the world’s luckiest break, Mazda’s story is one that has always concentrated on one thing: providing the best possible product for our customers. But today, how about we tell you some Mazda facts you might not know?

Divine Word

It’s easy to assume that the name “Mazda” is a simplification of founder Jujiro Matsuda’s surname, but in reality, it was also named after something a little older. The Zoroastrian god of Wisdom, Ahura Mazda, was also an inspiration for the company’s name. It’s got a bit more of a ring to it than Mazda’s original name, Toyo Cork Kogyo Company, don’t you think?

Record-Setter

In 2000, the Mazda MX-5 Miata was inducted into the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s best-selling 2-seat sports car. Not too bad for an instant classic roadster with just 140 horsepower! But when you factor in the vehicle’s curb weight and standard convertible nature, you can rest assured that you’re getting an incredibly peppy and responsive ride no matter how fast you’re going.

Three-Wheelin’

When Mazda began making automobiles, their first foray into the industry made sure that it definitely would make a splash. It was called the Mazda-Go, and it debuted in 1931. This three-wheeled truck looked more like a motorcycle than a truck we might see nowadays. However, it was a smash hit in Japan, and jump-started Mazda’s automobile legacy.
