When is it Time to Change the Brakes of Your 2020 Mazda CX-5?
With the roads getting icy and trickier to travel, making sure your 2020 Mazda CX-5 is in top shape will get more and more important. And one of the more vital components to keeping you in control of your Mazda SUV on the road is having a healthy set of brakes. And while your new Mazda’s brake pads are probably top-notch right now, a few years down the line, it might be a different story. So today, we want to give you a primer on when’s the right time to change your brake pads, and who should do that for you.
When it comes to telling when you need to change your brakes, there are two things you can do: inspect them or listen for them. Looking at your brake pads can be a little challenging, but just make sure you remember your pencil. A general rule of thumb for a healthy brake pad is that it has at least a quarter-inch of pad material left, and a pencil is about a quarter-inch thick, so it makes for a quick comparison.
But if you want to listen for them, it’ll be hard to miss. Many brake pads come with an “indicator” – a small metal shim in the brake pad that gets exposed as the pad wears down, and when it contacts the rotor, it emits a squealing sound that’s hard to miss, like nails on a chalkboard.
